SXSW Song of the Day: Shana Cleveland – A Ghost

“A Ghost” is the latest single from La Luz singer/guitarist Shana Cleveland‘s upcoming album Manzanita, which is out March 10 on Hardly Art Records.

Sonically, the song is a departure from her main gig with La Luz, but its ethereal, haunting psych-folk sound will surely fit perfectly within the confines of Austin’s Central Presbyterian Church, where Cleveland will be sharing the stage next month with Thao, SOAK, Le Ren, and The Ophelias for a showcase presented by Distance Management.

Check out the video for “A Ghost” below.

Shana Cleveland plays Central Presbyterian Church on March 14 @ 10:00pm.

It’s Valentine’s Day, so what better time to listen to a song about love? And with their latest single, “Song About Love”, Leeds band English Teacher has given us just that.

Or … maybe it’s just a song about vacuuming and doing the washing? Either way, it’s a pretty good tune. Check it out below.

SXSW Song of the Day: Sports Team – M5

Not necessarily a new band, London group Sports Team has been releasing singles since 2017. In 2022, the group released their second record Gulp! and they will be in Austin to promote their wares.

I don’t want to fall into common tropes when previewing English bands, but this band sounds undeniably British in a good way – strong hooks, songs about the British motorway and guitar rock with just a smidge of Parquet Courts style lyric delivery. Their music sounds fun and I can already see them getting solid reactions at SXSW.
