Dream pop outfit Tallies will be one of the several Toronto acts making their way to Austin for SXSW and for me personally, they’re one of the local acts I’ve been meaning to catch live for a few years now. This means chances are fairly high that I’ll break my unofficial “don’t go out of your way to see bands you could see back home” rule and check them out while I’m in Austin. But I break that rule pretty much every year, then go see the bands again when I’m back home too, so no big deal.

Check out the video for Tallies’ latest single “Wound Up Tight” below.

Tallies will be playing the following shows during SXSW:
March 17 – Try Hard Coffee – 4pm
March 17 – Mohawk Indoors – 11:40pm – 12:20am
March 19 – Lazarus Brewing Co – 5pm

SXSW 2022 POSTER1

Over the past few years at SXSW, some of the most impressive performances we’ve seen have been from artists coming out of the British Jazz Scene and this year looks to be no different as the Jazz Re:Freshed Outernational Showcase will be back again to shine a light on the best of the current UK jazz scene.

This year’s showcase includes Brown Penny, CHERISE, Colectiva, Jas Kayser, and Jazz re:freshed co-founder DJ Adam Rock, but the performer I’m most excited to see is London bassist and composer Daniel Camimir. Check out Casimir’s single “Safe, Pt. 1” below.

Daniel Casimir plays Sellers on Thursday, Mar 17 at 11:00pm and the International Day Stage at Brush Square Park on Friday, Mar 18 at 3:00pm.

SXSW Song Of The Day: Kiwi Jr. – Waiting In Line

While the Panic Manual crew is very much looking forward to our return to Austin next month for SXSW, there’s also something to be said for a little hometown pride, so today we shine the spotlight on one of the Toronto acts set to play SXSW – Kiwi Jr.

And while we’re on the subject of hometown pride, the band’s video for “Waiting In Line” definitely fits the bill with its footage of the band hanging out in various locales across our fair city.

AND … while we’re on the subject of waiting in line, that is something that most SXSW attendees are all too familiar with. Coincidence? Yes. Yes, it is.

Kiwi Jr. play the Radio Day Stage at Austin Convention Center on Thursday, March 17 and at Lucille on Friday Mar 18. They’re almost certainly playing a bunch of other shows too, so keep an eye out.

In the dozen years or so since the Panic Manual crew started attending SXSW, Montreal’s Elephant Stone has been a fairly steady presence, playing there pretty regularly over the years. And the band will be returning this year with a newly released EP in tow.

This Friday, the band releases Le voyage de M. Lonely dans la lune, a 4 song mini-concept album which tells the story of a man who chooses to leave humanity far behind and embark on a journey to live on the moon, ultimately deciding that such isolation is maybe not quite what he wants.

Lead single “Solitude,” the penultimate track in M. Lonely’s story, is a lovely bit of gentle psychedelic pop, sung entirely in French. Check it out below.

Elephant Stone play Hotel Vegas Patio on Friday, Mar 18.
