That showcase will be taking place on March 15 at Sellers Underground and will feature Marcus Joseph, Yazmin Lacey, Camilla George, Balimaya Project, Steam Down, and London-based composer, producer & multi-instrumentalist DoomCannon. SXSW Song of the Day: Sports Team – M5

Not necessarily a new band, London group Sports Team has been releasing singles since 2017. In 2022, the group released their second record Gulp! and they will be in Austin to promote their wares.

I don’t want to fall into common tropes when previewing English bands, but this band sounds undeniably British in a good way – strong hooks, songs about the British motorway and guitar rock with just a smidge of Parquet Courts style lyric delivery. Their music sounds fun and I can already see them getting solid reactions at SXSW.

Another week, another round of acts announced for SXSW, which is now just a little over 5 weeks away.

And while there are a few familiar names in this latest round, there are a lot that are brand new to me too, including Nashville power pop outfit The Prescriptions, whose latest release, Time Apart, came out in November of last year. Check out the video for lead track “April Blossoms” below.
