Remix Song of the Day: The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love (Buffetlibre remix)

Posted on by Ricky in Remixes, Song of the Day | Leave a comment

Frequent readers of this blog should know about our love affair with the DJ’s of Buffet Libre. The duo seem to do no wrong when it comes to selecting top notch tracks and making them better with a few tweaks here and there. “How Deep Is Your Love?” is the first track released off Brooklyn disco-funk-rock outfit The Rapture who are FINALLY back with a new album after a five year break. In The Grace Of Your Love is out September 6th and this remix takes the already good original track, adds a little more beat and a backing synth line and really drives home the disco house vibe of the track. It’s pretty amazing, download or stream it and you will be pleased.

Song of the Day: Rachel Yamagata – Even If I Don’t

Posted on by Ricky in Everything, Song of the Day | Leave a comment

American singer-songwriter Rachel Yamagata has lent her soulful smoky voice to artists such as Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams and Jason Mraz but on October 11th, she will be releasing her new album Chesapeake off her own label. It’s her first album in three years, something I can appreciate since I can’t stand it when a band releases an album every year. Where’s the quality control?

Anyways, “Even If I Don’t” is one of the tracks off that album and it features a soaring piano score that is anchored by Yamagata’s bluesy voice. It’s kinda like Regina Spektor meets Cat Power, to give a lazy “let’s take two other American female singer songwriters and merge them” kind of comparison. The track is good, check it out.

Song of the Day: Fruit Bats – You’re Too Weird

Toronto – Chicago band Fruit Bats is one of those bands that I’ve always heard of, but never really actually listened to. Well, their fifth album Tripper was released off Sub Pop a few weeks ago so it was only natural we would finally give them a go around.

“You’re Too Weird” is a track off that album and it’s got a great ’70s alt-country folk kind of vibe to it. Eric Johnson’s vocal delivery in this song sounds like Barry Gibb on Vicodin, resulting in a lovely, relaxing track that brings me back to my days at wood paneled cottages. Possibly a great track for those just about to leave their summer homes who want to reflect on the sunshine that was just the summer. Check it out.

Fantastic Song of the Day: Prince Edward Island- You Look like I Need A Drink

Toronto – Despite what you might think, the band Prince Edward Island is not a Canadian folk act that dresses in flannel and plays the banjo. They are instead a melancholy indie pop act from England that will be releasing their debut album called This Day is a Good Enough Day on August 29th off Crocfingers label. This song is just fantastic, even if shamelessly borrows from 90s era New Order. The guitar solo at the end, the pulsating life behind each drum beat and the “I’ve been there before” way that the lead singer delivers the vocals, it all reminds me of britpop and that’s a great thing. Do yourself a favor and check them out.
