SXSW Song of the Day: Escort – Chameleon Chameleon

Escort is an all out disco band from the little known city of Brooklyn. They have been around for about five years, steadily releasing singles and building momentum. They finally released an album this year and it’s just fantastic. Make no mistake, this is a disco album. It’s designed to make you move. Synths, horns, strings and dance beats all somehow meld together with surgical precision on this ten track album and the result is a highly fun and contagious record. Chameleon Chameleon is one of the tracks of the album. It’ll make you want to put on neon pants and put hairspray everywhere. Check it out.

Escort will be at SXSW, it’ll be super fun.

Song of the Day: Amanda Mair – Sense

Some songs just sound timeless. This track from Swedish singer Amanda Mair is one of them. Dusty Springfield comparisons aside, this track, with it’s friendly drums, catchy chorus and that certain Swedish melodic sense has definitely made my day. Everything Labrador does seems to be super good. I don’t know what’s in the water over there.

Amanda Mair has two singles out and her debut record is out June 5th. If this track is any indication of future work, then there’s going to be a star in the making.

SXSW Song of the Day: The Beautiful View – The Horseman

Ambitious name, ambitious band. San Diego band The Beautiful View aims to bring back early 2000’s spikey guitar indie rock with their new record life is beautiful.

With a relentless chorus and and a guitar riff that sounds like it belongs in 2001 Lower East side New York, this group might just have the chops to make some noise at SXSW this year. The outro for this track also can be seamlessly transition into Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Maps.

SXSW Song of the Day: Eli Mardock – Everything Happens For the First Time

SXSW is only two weeks away. It’s incredibly hard to believe. Usually I am beyond prepared for the trip, but life circumstances have taken up much of my time the past two months so I find myself playing catch up. I was listening to the Paper Garden Records set list and this little gem showed up.

I love grandiose tunes featuring strings so this track by former Eagle Seagull singer Eli Mardock certainly caught my attention. This is a song I envision being played as the sun bursts through the clouds on a dark day. It’s pretty good, check it out.
