Song Of The Day: Richard Dawson & Circle – Methuselah

Richard Dawson has always followed his artistic whims down whichever path it takes him and on his latest album Henki, a collaboration with Finnish rock band Circle, it takes him down some fascinating paths indeed, with the band adding a lot of prog and at times almost metal-ish sounds to the mix. It’s a heady musical journey.

Though each of the songs on Henki are named after plants, the tales Dawson spins are decidely human ones. “Methuselah” is one such track, with Dawson telling the story of Donald Rusk Curry, the man who discovered the oldest living tree, a fact which could only be confirmed once said tree was cut down. Oh the irony.

Song Of The Day: Rosie Carney – Tidal Wave

Ireland’s Rosie Carney first came to my attention back in late 2020 with The Bends, her track for track reinterpretation of Radiohead’s 1995 album. And while it may have been cover songs which initially grabbed my attention, an investigation into her own catalogue finds Carney to be a fine songwriter in her own right. Exhibit A – “Tidal Wave”, the gently melancholy third single off of her upcoming album i wanna feel happy.

i wanna feel happy is out May 27th via Color Study.
