“Can’t Get What I Want” is the latest single from Mightmare, following the release of the band’s debut album in October of last year.

As bandleader River Shook explains, the song “… highlights a moment of clarity as our protagonist realizes in real time that demanding better treatment from an abuser is like expecting honey from a hornet’s nest.”

‘New Sparklehorse album’ is not a phrase I expected to be hearing in 2023, but it is certainly a welcome one.

Comprised of unreleased songs recorded prior to the 2010 death of Mark Linkous, Sparklehorse’s Bird Machine is out on September 8 via ANTI- Records. Check out the video below for the album’s first single, “Evening Star Supercharger.”

Song of the Day: Weird Nightmare – She’s the One

A good cover song is one that not only reinterprets a song and looks at it in a new light, but also highlights what was already great about the original song. And with their cover of The Ramones’ “She’s The One,” Weird Nightmare have done just that. “She’s The One” amps up the poppiness of the original version significantly, sounding almost like it could be a long lost Teenage Fanclub track.

And as a bonus for Toronto fans, the video sees its protagonist skateboarding past a bunch of well known Toronto spots like Ronnie’s, Bitondo’s and Sonic Boom. Check it out.

Weird Nightmare play Toronto this Friday, June 9 as part of Do West Fest.
