Emancipator (not Lincoln) has been pulling heartstrings electronically since 2009 (not 1809). Based in Portland OR, his music has been described as zen and cerebral. That may be so, but every now and then your exoskeleton becomes restrictive and your next instar is just one moult away. The new recording “Diamonds” seems to do just that. It sees Emancipator releasing himself from the trappings of Dusk to Dawn, from the pensive Minor Cause or Natural Cause (both I recommend highly) to something entirely more upbeat and… South American. Or, maybe I’m crazy. As I’m writing this a 10 man bagpipe band just strode by in full gear… You tell me who needs some restraints.
