Toronto - Pop Levi is a pop artist from Liverpool. He used to be the bassist for Ladytron. After turning solo, Pop Levi had some hype last year with his debut cd “The Return to Form Black Magick Party” which got him some decent reviews. I thought that cd was alright, I liked the song “Pick Me Up Uppercut” and “Sugar Assault Me Now”. I guess you can best describe Pop Levi as catchy pop music.

Having said that, I have really enjoyed the new Pop Levi album - “Never Never Love” out September 2nd. The album consists of 13 songs. They are all extremely catchy - the title track “Never Never Love” is a playful tune based around a drumbeat, while a song like “Mai’s Space” balances Pop Levi’s heliumesque voice with a a nice little riff and some produced sound effects. All the songs are upbeat and have a good hook and I think this is one fine summer album. Theres definitely an 80s-ish feel to the album, but what album these days don’t?

It’s a shame this album doesn’t come out til September 2nd, because it’s a nice complement to a summer day. I guess with global warming, summers are longer anyway.
