Song of the Day: Asap Ferg (Featuring Migos) – Nasty (Who Dat)

While all the aging rock critics are busy criticizing the new indie pop bands for overusing the millenium howl, hip hop has been busy inventing new ways to have catchy choruses that well, simple but effective. Not sure many songwriters would come up with the chorus line from Asap Ferg’s track Nasty. Here it is:

Ay, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ay, ya, ya, ya, ya, yeah
Ay, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Who dat, who dat, who dat, who dat, who dat, who
Who dat, who dat, who dat, tryna get up in my crew

You would think it’s stupid, but you can’t get it out of your head after listening to the track. Anyways, I can’t get over this track, its fun and sounds good. Migos is having a good year.

Song Of The Day: Doom Side Of The Moon – Time

Doom Side Of The Moon is the brainchild of Kyle Shutt, guitarist for The Sword and as you might have figured out from the name, it’s a stoner/doom metal tribute to Dark Side Of The Moon, the Pink Floyd album that launched a thousand laser light shows.

The project features Shutt’s bandmates from The Sword, as well as vocalist Alex Marrero (Brownout / Brown Sabbath), saxophonist Jason Frey (Black Joe Lewis / Hard Proof), and keyboardist Joe Cornetti (Croy & The Boys).

According to Shutt, “The idea came to me after getting baked and wanting to hear a heavy version of “Time” and yeah, that does pretty much sound like the kind of idea one might come up with while under the influence. I’m not sure that the world really needed to hear what Dark Side would have sounded like if it was recorded by Black Sabbath, but their version of “Time” is suitably heavy and epic sounding and I’d imagine all involved probably had a lot of fun making this.

Doom Side Of The Moon is out December 8 via Music Theories Recordings/Mascot Label Group.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of their classic debut album George Best, The Wedding Present will be releasing a re-recorded version of the album, fittingly titled George Best 30 (GB30).

Recorded pretty much live off the floor with producer Steve Albini back in 2008 while he was working on the band’s El Rey album, the updated version of the album sounds great and just as vital as ever. Check out the new version of “Shatner” below.

GB30 is out September 22nd on HHBTM Records.
