Expansive and hypnotic, “Seeds” is the droney lead single off of Water, It Feels Like It’s Growing, the upcoming third full length from Montreal psych rockers Atsuko Chiba.

In advance of that album’s release early next year, the band is currently playing a string of dates opening for King Buffalo which takes them to Toronto’s Velvet Underground on Thursday, October 13.

Water, It Feels Like It’s Growing is out on January 20th, 2023 via Mothland.

To say that The Comet Is Coming blew my mind is both a double entendre and a hypothesis, testable whenever I cue their previous album Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery and hit play. On their new full length, even though the space-jazz of prior years lingers, they now venture into space-dance/rock territory.

Always with a flair for description (or an inability to stick to 8-bit era computer file name standard), Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam is as much an involving listening experience as ever. “Pyramids” is one of the more straight-forward offerings. With a rich synth melody sprinkled with Shabaka Hutching’s saxophone as mere occasional beacon, this track is at once dance-able and contemplative.

“Play Ground” is the latest single from Hamilton’s Zoon. The track is taken off of the band’s recently released A Sterling Murmuration EP and adds a nice touch of ’60s-style psychedelia to the band’s dreamy shoegaze sound. Check it out below.

A Sterling Murmuration is out now via Paper Bag Records.
