If you’re looking for a song that has a solid indie rock core with just a hint of reggae and soul, look no further than Kae Sun’s “Heart Healing Pulse.” The Canadian-Ghanaian singer-songwriter dropped his second studio album Afriyie last year and this is one of my favorite tracks. With a catchy beat, a “never leaving your head” chorus and Sun’s calming voice, it manages to be infectious, upbeat and soothing all at the same time. Give it a listen:

Song of the Day: The Presets – Goodbye Future

With their new single “Goodbye Future,” Australian duo The Presets appear to have gone back to their Apocalypso roots. What I mean is that this song sounds like something you can hear on the radio, whereas I found a lot of tracks off Pacifica to be more club friendly. Does that make sense? I mean, this song will definitely be played in clubs too, but it also has a strong, catchy pop vibe to it. I’m normally not a fan of auto-tune, but in this context, it seems to work. There is also a great opportunity for you to clap your hands in this song. Always a bonus. I love dance tracks that are short, for some reason. Most of them tend to be like 6 or 7 minutes. This one hits hard and exits quickly. Wham bam thank you mam.

I’m happy that the band is back and making music. Here’s hoping for a new album this year.

Song of the Day: Timbre Timbre – Hot Dreams

Hot Dreams is a new track from Arts & Craft band Timbre Timbre. I believe title of the track is also the title of the band’s upcoming third album, slated for release in April 1st. It’s a smooth midnight-time track that I would probably like listening to if I was in a 30’s era prohibition style lounge while smoking a cigar, drinking a stiff bourbon and wearing a top hat. The track ends off with a lovely sax solo by Colin Stetson. Put on your velvet suit and have a listen.

Song of the Day: The Anchoress – What Goes Around?

The Anchoress is an exciting new duo that I have a particular interest in. This is because one half of the duo is Paul Draper, former front man of the group Mansun, a band that I very much adored. He is paired with Catherine Anne Davies, who I am unfamiliar with but certainly has a depth in her voice that I can appreciate. What Goes Around is the first single off the debut album. It is a catchy track and with multiple hooks, quirky piano work and sudden shifts bordering on prog-elements, Draper’s touch on the song is undeniable. A welcome return for a veteran musician and a welcome debut by a new vocal talent. Check the track out here.
