“A Welsh rapper? Now I’ve seen everything.”

I did not study Historical Hip Hop Humanities at Oxford, but to me, Ren Gill‘s stuff recalls an earlier lyrical, musical, even spiritually philosophical stage of rap.

A new album, Sick Boi, with a staggering 18 tracks recently came out and I thought this track a genuine, if naïve, take on the struggles of the stereotypical Man. Sadly, regardless of how many times the contents have been repeated ad infinitum, many people will never get the lesson or worse, take only the parts that suit them to heart.

Song of the Day: Anoushka Shankar feat. Nils Frahm – Daydreaming

Chapter I: Forever, For Now is the latest release from Anoushka Shankar and, as its title suggests, the Arooj Aftab produced “mini-album” is the first of a series of three such albums which she plans to write and release between tours.

“Daydreaming”, the lead track off the album, is a beautiful, meditative piece which sees Shankar collaborating with Nils Frahm. Give it a listen.

Song of the Day: IVE – WAVE

Apparently K-pop bands also sing songs in Japanese in order to reach the ever elusive Japanese market. So basically what I’m saying is that K-pop groups sing songs in:

Korean
English
Japanese

Talk about over achievers.

This song by IVE popped up on my YouTube recommended feed and it’s ridiculously catchy.

What is the song about? I haven’t a single clue.
Why do they spell out the word Wave? I don’t know.

“WAVE” is unabashedly simple in it’s execution and very much a guilty pleasure. Should I enjoy this track as much as I do? I don’t know. This is the same question I ask about when listening to all the K-pop tunes, but at this point I’m too old to care.
