Late Night Music Guests – May 24th to May 28th

Toronto – Lets take a look at one of the late night performances from last week. This is She & Him on Carson Daly. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anything from the Carson Daly show.

Funny how there’s no spotlight on M.Ward. I guess it just states the obvious, it’s about Zoey. When Carson said “I never thought…” I honestly thought he was going to say “I never thought…they would come on my show” haha. On to this week.

Monday, May 24

24 is over!!! I didn’t even watch much of this season. I’m kinda sad this had to end, but the show was becoming a parody of itself. Still, if I can get back from camping in time, you can bet I’ll be watching it. THere are no musical guests worth watching on tonight.

Tuesday, May 25

The Black Keys are on David Letterman, the John Butler Trio are on Jay Leno, Ok Go are on Carson Daly and Frightened Rabbit are on Jimmy Fallon. Pretty good night for music. Did you know the Black Keys are on both the Macgruber and Twilight soundtracks? Random.

Wednesday, May 26

mmmmmmmmmmmmBop! Hanson is on Jay Leno! The Black Keys continute their nyc talk show tour by playing on the Johnny Fallon show. Canadian band City and Colour will play on Carson Daly. They’ll play at Molson Amphitheatre later this summer with Ra Ra Riot and Tegan and Sarah. Expected girl to guy ratio at that show – 3:1.

Thursday, May 27

Band of Horses will once again be promoting their new album Infinite Arms, this time with an appearance on Craig Ferguson.

Friday, May 28

Kevin Eubanks is listed as a musical guest on Jay Leno. WTF?!?!? The National will be on Craig Ferguson promoting High Violet. They will be at Massey Hall on June 8th and June 9th. Canadian band Stars will be on Jimmy Fallon as well. This is the second week in the row where high power music acts are on a Friday night. Don’t they know no one watches late night tv on Friday nights?

Late Night Music Guests – May 17 to May 21st, 2010

Toronto – Before we look at this week’s guests, lets take a look at The National performing Afraid of Everyone on Letterman

Monday, May 17th

John Lydon’s Public Image Ltd play Jimmy Fallon about one week after their Toronto show. I don’t know if anyone went to that though. I’m sure Josh will post some youtube link in the comments section, and then not explain what the hell the youtube link is.

Tuesday, May 18th

Janelle Monae will play on Jay Leno to promote her new album The ArchAndroid which is also released the same day. I saw Janelle at SXSW in 2009 and her energy was quite impressive. Might be worth checking out.

Wednesday, May 19th

Mumford & Sons will be playing on Jimmy Fallon. They will be playing the song The Cave. The appearance will be to promote their summer tour, which will not visit Toronto, despite a sold out show at Lees in February. They should be pretty good on Fallon. Their performance on Letterman can be found here.

Thursday, May 20th

My my, this might be the best scheduled night for late night music since I started doing this earlier this year. Lets see, Band of Horses will be on Letterman to promote their new album Infinite Arms (out this week). They will play the Island show with Broken Social Scene, Pavement and Beach House on my birthday (June 19), Luckily, I already saw their secret show last week at the Horseshoe. Vampire Weekend will be on Craig Ferguson, although this might be a rerun. The surprise of the night is the double bill on Carson Daly, featuring two favs of the Panic Manual – She & Him and VV Brown. I wonder who Carson had to sleep with to get these two bands on his show. That should be a spectacular show music wise. She & Him will be playing the Sound Academy on June 9th and as much as I love Zooey Deschanel, I can’t imagine going to the Sound Academy this soon after Massive Attack. There are tickets available though, so go get some.

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Massive Attack is playing Jimmy Fallon. They’ll probably play Splitting the Atom. Imagine how awesome it would be if they played Angel?

That’s it for this weeks show, theres some good bands out there so for all you insomniacs out there, make sure to check out the acts.

Late Night Music Guests – May 10th to May 15th, 2010

Toronto – Before we get to this weeks music guests, lets take a look at Two Door Cinema Club’s performance last week on Kimmel. They are here next Monday at the Wrongbar.

Here are this week’s late night music guests.

Monday, May 10th

Evangeline Lilly is on Letterman. Anyone else about Lost finally ending? This season has been pretty good. All the minorities are dying though. Hopefully Miles doesn’t bite the dust this week. Limp Bizkit is on Jay Leno, trying to bring back a nu-metal revival. Personally, I would like to erase that period from music history. Wilco is on Ferguson, has anyone been to Sky Blue Sky Sandwich?

Tuesday, May 11th

MGMT will be on Letterman, Michael Bolton will be on Jimmy Kimmel. Michael Bolton! who could ever forget this classic video. Jonsi, fresh off his theatrical performance at the Sound Academy, will be on Craig Ferguson.

Wednesday, May 12th

Unless you are a die hard fan of Macy gray, no good music guests on tonight.

Thursday, May 13th

The National will be on Letterman to promote their new cd, High Violet which is out on Tuesday. They will also be at Massey Hall with the Antlers on June 8th and June 9th. It’s amazing to see how big they’ve become since I last saw them at the Horseshoe a long time ago. Good for them.

Friday, May 14th

The Jonas Brothers are on Jay Leno, which means between 11:30-12:30 on Friday night, there will be no teenagers out and about.

Happy viewings!

Late Night Guests – May 3rd, 2008 to May 7th, 2008

Toronto – Another week has arrived, have you watched any documentaries yet? You better have. Before we get to music guests this week, lets take a look at Dr. Dog on Jimmy Kimmel last week. So addicted to this tune.

Monday, May 3rd

Two Door Cinema Club are playing Jimmy Kimmel. These guys are getting a lot of publicity right now and their music is quite good. They will be at the Wrongbar on May 17th and tickets are going FAST. We will be there.

Tuesday, May 4th

Sharon Jones is on Letterman. I think she has been on a late night tv show every week. She’ll be at the Sound Academy on May 25th. From all accounts, she’s great live so it might be worth the journey to the Sound Academy for it. Ok Go is on Jimmy Fallon. They were in LA last week, I guess it only makes sense for them to be in NY this week.

Wednesday, May 5th

The New Pornographers are on Jimmy Fallon to promote their new album Together, which is out on Tuesday. I wonder if it’ll be all hands on deck for this Fallon show. The New Pornographers will be at the Sound Academy (!) on June 15th. Was anyone else at the Pornos/Belle and Sebastian Sound Academy show a few years ago? ugh. Great lineup, horrible show. Probably because I was in the back.

Thursday, May 6th

Local Natives, a band that we like very much, yet refuses to come to Toronto, will be playing on Craig Ferguson show. They’ll be everywhere in the US for most of May and June, check out their site for tour dates.

Friday, May 7th

Nothing really of note.

Here is some random music news
