Song Of The Day: Tortoise – Yonder Blue

Chicago post-rock outfit Tortoise are back with their latest release, The Catastrophist. It’s a welcome return, as the band hasn’t released a full length studio album since 2009’s Beacons Of Ancestorship.

In the time between those albums, it`s like they haven`t missed a beat, continuing on with the heavily synth based sounds of their last few releases, but also expanding their sound by adding vocals for the first time in their career. Alongside their cover of David Essex`s “Rock On,” Tortoise also collaborate with Yo La Tengo`s Georgia Hubley on “Yonder Blue,” a pretty little number that brings to mind her main band`s 2000 release And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out.

Tortoise are currently on a tour that brings them to Toronto for a show at Lee`s Palace on March 12 alongside Mind Over Mirrors and Last Ex.
