I still remembered when I discovered the Strokes, I was in university (yeah I’m that old) and there was rumors of this American band making waves in the UK. Hard to Explain was the first track I heard and like everyone who heard it, I was immediately hooked.
When Is This It came out, HMV had it for nine bucks(!) and to make it even better, it was the UK version. As you expect, that album sound tracked much of the year after. It also ushered in an era of exciting music and people started looking at the lower east side as place for hip people and emerging music instead of a drugged addled wasteland.
It’s been well over a decade and we’ve all changed. older and wiser we have all become, so it’s only natural that the Strokes have changed too. Comedown Machine is the Stroke’s 5th album and 4th attempt to escape the expectations set by their iconic debut album. The new album has not gotten the same fanfare as previous records, but still managed to sneak into the top 10 of Billboards. If you haven’t dusted off your vintage leather jacket to pick this up, then congratulations, we have a perfect opportunity for you!
