Toronto – What are you doing tonight for CMW? Are you like me, packing for SXSW? If not, then you probably need some suggestions. My main suggestion is to stay at one place and not move anywhere. This is because I am old, and it’s cold and rainy outside. If you are like me, you have decent boots and probably don’t want to subject those boots to any potential over salting, thus damaging the leather (if you don’t wash it right away). Here are our suggestions for you if you want to stay at one place.
Lee’s Palace
These Electric Lives @ 1:00am
YOUNG GALAXY @ 11:30pm
Imaginary Cities @ 10:30pm
Miracle Fortress @ 9:30pm
Wilderness of Manitoba @ 8:30pm
A splendid night of Canadian music featuring the band that has created one of our favorite albums of the year – Young Galaxy. The rest of the lineup is not too shabby either. The beauty of a show at Lee’s Palace is that you can eat in the Annex before the show( Victory Cafe, Sushi, Hungarian Food, One Love are all nearby) and after the show (Ghazales, Big Fat Burrito, Sarah’s). I would get to this show early, because it will fill up, just like a burrito.
Horseshoe
Modern Superstition @ 8:30PM
Molly Rankin @ 9:20PM
Memphis @ 10:20PM
Still Life Still @ 11:20PM
Zeus @ 12:20AM
Rich Aucoin @ 1:30AM
The Wilderness @ 2:30 AM
I hate to be Captain Obvious and put the two top shows of the night as the ones being at Lee’s and Horseshoe, but what can you say about this show that hasn’t been said? This show will be a bundle of energy with retro sounding band Zeus, the always adventurous Rich Aucoin and electro phenoms The Wilderness anchoring the majority of the night. You’ll just have to get over Torquil Campbell’s dramatics (request a Stars song, please) first to get to the party. Get there early, or prepare to wait outside.
Silver Dollar
Beekeepers Society @ 8:00PM
GROUNDERS @ 9:00PM
Heartbeat Hotel @10:00PM
THE DARCYS @ 11:00PM
The Russian Futurists @ 12:00AM
Silly Kissers @ 1:00AM
Topanga @ 2:00AM
The Silver Dollar is home to some underrated shows that always turn out quite exceptional. Tonight’s bill is obviously anchored by the one two rock punch of The Darcy’s and The Russian Futurist, but don’t discount the quality in the Silly Kissers (a Wade favorite) and Topanga (who Paul wrote about here)
Wrongbar
VALLEYS @ 9:00PM
Ell V Gore @ 10:00PM
Little Girls @ 11:00PM
METZ @ 12:00AM
Austra @ 1:00AM
Monolithium @ 2:00AM
I would go to this show just to see Katie Stelmanis’ Austra, a electro act that oozes awesome. I’ve heard good and bad thing about Metz, and don’t know the rest of these bands, but I take it if you are going to the Wrongbar, you are pretty much stuck there since it’s so far away from everything else.
Those are our one stop shop suggestions for tonight. Happy CMW-ing(?)
