Toronto – It’s the end of the year, which means best of lists are everywhere, including our own blog. We’ve decided to do a best of list of all the best of lists this year. Maybe it’s in honor of one of my favorite movies of the year – Inception, where there’s a dream within a dream. I don’t know. Maybe I’m bored. Here are some of the best “best of” lists of 2010, our lists are not on this list, in the interest of self interest.

I have a hunger for cover songs, and the excellent site Cover Me Songs helps fill me up with quality cover tunes on a consistent basis. Check out their top 50 covers of the year.
Hottest Canadian Acts
Here’s a list I’ll never be asked to contribute to. Every year, the music blog I Heart Music asks a bunch of online media types to compile a list of the top Canadian acts of the year and through a complicated mathematical equations that involves constants, derivatives and limits, an entirely accurate list created. Personally, it’d be much easier to just set this all up on my friend’s Top 10 Ranking site.
Top Viral Videos
The easiest way for anyone to become famous these days is to become a viral video sensation – just ask Antoine Dodson or that big dude from the double rainbow video. The amazing thing about viral videos is that you never know what will hit, and when it hits, the speed it hits at is a great indication of how quickly our society can pass information from person to person every day. Of course, it’s also a pleasure to see how these would be normal people take advantage of their popularity.

If you do not check the Big Picture on a regular basis, you are missing out on some of the finest photography work on Earth. They are at every major even that takes place around the globe and their pictures truly is worth 1000 words. Check out their best pictures of the year collection, and then look at your tiny point and shoot camera and cry.

Let’s face it, Nature is making a comeback. Ever since BBC Planet Earth blew everyone away with their unprecedented visuals, people have been going gaga for nature documentaries. Here are just some of the extraordinary photos people have taken over the years regarding nature and animals.

Sports Plays of the Year
Every year, something utterly ridiculous happens in the world of sports that makes you jump out of your chair and onto your feet. This year is no exception. Obviously the best moment of the year was Sidney Crosby’s goal at the Olympics, but one of the biggest holy shit moments for me was in the World Cup, when that Paraguay dude deliberately used a hand ball to prevent Ghana from scoring, then the heartbreak that happened afterwards.
