Toronto – The holidays are over and you are poor. Well, it’s a good thing that fucking is free. Are you with me? If you don’t happen to be part of the fucking crowd, may I suggest the Bad Dog Theatre for some cheap entertainment?
For the next four Saturday nights in January the Bad Dog Theatre is hosting an improv comedy homage to the longest-running science fiction show ever – Doctor Who.
There is this trend in city where improv kids take a popular TV show, loosely base some characters and a plot based on the show, change the name of the show to closely resemble the actual show, make some kind of silly poster, and then put on an improvised long form performance which may or may not connect to the previous show. Other recent examples include Dreadwood (Deadwood), Battleswesome Awesomestar (Battlestar Gallactica), and Rome’d (Rome). It is an interesting concept because it draws upon an already existing fan base to get bums into seats for their shows.
If you have never seen an episode of Doctor Who, you will still find the show funny and entertaining. If you are a fan of Doctor Who, the cast will impress you with their knowledge and mocking of the original show. Everybody wins, and you just might get laid*.
