In January of 2009 five of Canada’s top young songwriters locked themselves in the Chemical Sound recording studio in Toronto and vowed not to come out until they had written and recorded a five song EP. This Canadian super group has since given themselves the name NOVELS and features Tokyo Police Club’s Graham Wright, Will Currie of Will Currie and The Country French, Luke Lalonde of Born Ruffians, Dean Marino of Tin Star Orphans / EX~PO and Jason Sadlowski.

This NOVELS ep won’t be sold in CD stores, on the internet, or anywhere else. Instead, the group is going to give them away, or put them secret places. Maybe you’ll find a copy sitting on a park bench. Maybe a masked man will hand you one as he passes you on the street. Maybe the Panic Manual will give you one. To get a very limited, hand pressed, hand packaged NOVELS ep, send an email to panic at panicmanual.com with “I listen to NOVELS” in the subject line and tell me your favourite book of 2009, along with your mailing address before November 10th. One lucky winner will be chosen at random.

You can listen to all the NOVELS songs on Vimeo via the five individual chapters of the documentary, NOVELS The Movie. Here is chapter 4 from the documentary which features the song Record In Hand written by Jason Sadlowski and where Will Currie teaches us how to bow a vibraphone. You can also have a listen below to the MP3 of Big Run, which was the song brought to the project by Luke Lalonde.
