Toronto – Man, I am behind the times. As our sister blog IDVDK has stated, the band The Big Pink is pretty wicked. The Big Pink call themselves an electro rock band from England but I think they are more shoegaze revivalists to me.

The songs off the Big Pink’s debut album “A Brief History of Love” sounds like something from the early 90s, evoking a nostalgic warm feeling in me, even though I didn’t even listen to this type of music in 1990 (I was..10). The lead track Crystal Visions sets the tone early, with its fuzzy guitar, disengaged lyrics and oddly, vocals that sound like the guy from BRMC (another band known for fuzzy guitars and JAMC influences). The rest of the album follows suit, never really losing much momentum. The song “Velvet” (lazy people might bring up some MBV comparisions, lazier people will just reference the lazy people) has already made PFM’s top songs of the decade and the single “Dominos” is just catchy, despite its lazy lyrics.

With the rise of Glasvegas and (now of) The Big Pink, it appears the wall of sound is back, and that is just fine with me.
