Toronto – So I’ve been listening to the lp from a San Francisco band called “Girls“, which got a whopping 9.1 from Pitchfork. If Jesus made an album, I don’t think Pitchfork would give it 9.1. What do I think about it? It’s pretty damn good. I haven’t formulated a complete opinion on it, but its got some solid tunes on it (like..every track). As I was listening to it this morning, I couldn’t help but be reminded of a Beautiful South song, Bell Bottomed Tear.
Do this
1. Listen to Christopher Owen on “Ghost Mouth”
2. Listen to the female vocals ( I forgot which female vocal du jour it was for BS) on the song “Bell Bottom Tears”
3. Are they similar?
Anyways, the Girls cd is highly recommended, and if you haven’t heard of the Beautiful South, I highly recommend them too.

Horaayy..there are 2 comment(s) for me so far ;)
Never mind it being quite similar to that Beautiful South song, the Girls track bears an uncanny resemblance to their own song Hellhole Ratrace, if you ask me.
this is absolutely right. i just entered ‘girls “ghost town” “beautiful south”‘ into Google to see if they’d credited them for that line of the melody, because it is uncanny. anyway, i guess they didn’t, but at least someone on the internet agrees with me.
