EELS is an American rock band formed by Mark Oliver Everett, otherwise known simply as E. Mark has a lo-fi, raspy, garage rock feel to his music. I would put EELS in the category of indy darling who will likely never live up to the hype or reach the level of success they had early in their career. Although E can’t brag about too much commercial album success lately, he has kept busy over the past decade via several soundtracks. E has left his mark on such films as Yes Man, American Beauty, Holes, The Anniversary Party, Knocked Up, The End of Violence, Hellboy II, Hot Fuzz, and all three Shrek movies.

His lastest album, Hombre Lobo – 12 Songs Of Desire is Marks’ seventh studio album and I am really diggin’ it. As the title suggests, these are songs of desire. A lot of the songs revolve around what seems to be a love sick E. Since I am a boy, I enjoy listening to other boys sing about unattainable girls in a lost puppy dog kind of way. Girls rock, yes? Maybe that is why I am a fan of Brendan Benson and Ben Kweller too, as they also seem to be afflicted with ‘why won’t the cute girl in the sun dress and penny-loafers let me buy her ice cream-itis’,…for which, there is no known cure.

Here is the video for In My Dreams. I think the woman in the green dress is who E is singing about on all of the songs on this album. I’d buy her ice cream, but she probably wouldn’t let me. I also posted an mp3 of Beginners Luck from Hombre Lobo. Listening to these two songs will give you a good understanding of the solid tracks found on this album. It’s worth a listen.
