For all you digitsal photo/video junkies out there, check out the latest podcast from Red Giant Software (Episode 22: Creating a Summer Blockbuster Film Look). Hosted by Stu Maschwitz, this half hour video podcast takes you through the coloring techniques and theory used in Transformers, Terminator, Phelam 123 and Where The Wild Things Are. Even if you aren’t into digital coloring techniques, the podcast will make you appreciate and look at your favourite summer movies differently. It is pretty amazing and funny how they alter the color of reality. At one point Stu points out and shows that the hair of all the actors in Transformers is green.
Red Giant, who puts out these podcasts, are ultimately trying to sell software which they make, but the software is pretty cool and useful for anybody involved in video editing or motion graphics. I am currently in serious need of an After Effects upgrade, and when I do, I may splurge on some Colorista.
