*Our view from the toilet in the basement
Last Saturday night the Panic Manual crew crashed a NXNE after-party at Henri Faberge’s (of the Adorables) house. The first thing that sprung to mind as soon as we walked in the door: “Where did the dude put all his furniture?”
The party was fully hopping by the time we arrived around 1:00 with a regular rotation of bands in the basement, three beer for $10, a DJ in the living room and cute girls in sundresses standing on the stairs waiting to use the bathroom. What more could you ask for?
In the basement, AKA “The Deathtrap”, we caught sets by Hooded Fang, Steamboat, and Gravity Wave. Our tasteless jokes about foundation problems, the potential for the ceiling to cave in and the lack of possible fire escape routes successfully alienated any and everyone seated near us. Oops. Funny how the three bands I saw in the basement of a house on Bathrust Street sounded better than the last two shows I have seen at the El Mo.
We attempted to give away a carved wooden owl to anyone who passed by us, chatted with historyjen and tried to convince Hot Panda to move to Toronto.
All in all, good times were had by all. I can’t remember the last time I left a party and the sun was rising. On our way out we met these guys chilling in their band-van. They’re from the states and called Prizzy Prizzy Please. Have a listen to their song Campfire Girls Weekend Party on their myspace page. It’s worth while.
