Toronto – If you read my SXSW review of the Perez Hilton concert, you might of remembered my mentioning of some band that invaded the stage with some homeless people and burned money. Here’s an image for those of you who forgot:

It turns out that band is called Living Things, an alternative rock band from the musical hotbed of St. Louis. They also gave us Nelly, if you recall. I wonder where that bandaged up guy is now. Anyways, they have stage names like “Lillian Berlin” and “Bosh Berlin”, who is probably named after Toronto’s own Chris Bosh. Living Things were part of the Nylon Summer Tour and was one of the openers for Patrick Wolf. Originally I had intended to only see Patrick Wolf, but the set times I got was incorrect and I ended up having to watch Living Things.

Anyone who has gone to a concert with me knows of my disdain for watching opening bands. It is not that I do not want to watch them ( I very much do), it’s just that I absolutely hate the 30-40 minute wait between bands. Much to my surprise I quite enjoyed the Living Things set. They play a blend of rock n roll that hails to the rock n roll bands of the past, with a lot of attitude, large guitar riffs and poses. I guess they also sound a bit like BRMC before BRMC decided to suck. Patricia thought the lead singer, Lillian Berlin, was a dead ringer for a young Mick Jagger with his monkey lips, swagger and swinging hips. I guess it should be noted that after the piss poor Passion Pit show the other nite, a monkey playing a tambourine would have been enjoyable.

The band played about 30-40 minutes and I do recall one song called ‘Oxygen’ that was pretty good. It is one of the singles off their 2009 album called “Habeas Corpus’. It’s worth checking out if you like the classic rock n roll/brmc vibe.

Also, points to the band for pulling up some people to dance on stage, including one of Angelina Jolie’s 312 kids.
