Not too many nerding out moments at all..ST is ingrained enough into the general public's cultural psyche, although making a mainstream James Tiberius Kirk risks alienating fans. But really who are we kidding? Fans will buy anything. ST fans endured Deep Space 9 AND Voyager, possibly the worst abominations of the entire franchise. The movie is worth seeing twice if only for the parachute scene. I actually think the new Star Trek series is built FOR non-fans. Diminishing returns, friends. You should have taken that $12 and seen Star Trek. I have been never been a fan of any of the Trek franchise but god damn that was some good watching. They seemed to have gotten everything right with it. Something I have a hard time doing is suspending my disbelief when I watch a movie, but every time I watch T2, i get lost in it and think "yeah, liquid robots traveling through time, it could totally happen". Same thing happens when I watch Back To The Future and Toy Story. Time travel and talking toys, yah my disbelief is totally suspended.
