Here’s why I disliked the movie:
1) some serious plot holes
2) crappy script
3) no reason to care about any characters including John Connor even though we’ve invested more in him than Heidi did on her boobs
4) Michael Ironside in a submarine
I think they just told the wrong story. I thought this was going to be a dark, gritty post apocalyptic struggle where we see what happens after Judgement Day. Where we see John Connor leading the resistance against Skynet. I wanted it to be about his relationship with Kyle Reese and what led up to sending him back in time to protect his mum and knock her up in the first place.
Instead they told some lame story about the first terminator with flesh who doesn’t even know he’s a terminator and Connor’s attempt to locate Reese as a 17 year old kid.
But I imagine it’s because they are setting us up for yet another mediocre movie.
It’s directed by McG, which explains everything. Having just watched Charlie’s Angels on TV the other night it confirmed for me that he’s a heavy handed action director who sacrifices character development, relationships and subtle story telling for unnecessarily long and repetitive action scenes….some of which are stolen from other movies including the first two Terminators (which for the record I love).
To be fair the script itself was terrible in the first place with some pretty big holes and inconsistencies….did they even watch the other movies? Do they realize that performing open-heart surgery in the desert is an unwise and unsafe choice? Is it really that sunny after a nuclear war?
However kudos to Sam Worthington and yes even Christian Bale for trying to take the movie seriously. Although Bale traded in his signature Batman “Where is He!!!!!!!?” yell for “What are you????!!!!” I also spent most of the movie wondering what scene Bale was filming when the infamous meltdown happened.
But what do I expect from a movie that makes Michael Ironside the leader of the resistance, puts him in a submarine with a bunch of Russians and then not expect me to laugh out loud?

Horaayy..there are 9 comment(s) for me so far ;)
I saw it this afternoon for $12. I want both back.
this is not good. not good at all. i’m supposed to watch it this weekend.
I had high hopes for this after the trailer, but you just saved me $12.
Terminator 2 is still one of the most enjoyable movies of all time. They seemed to have gotten everything right with it. Something I have a hard time doing is suspending my disbelief when I watch a movie, but every time I watch T2, i get lost in it and think “yeah, liquid robots traveling through time, it could totally happen”.
Same thing happens when I watch Back To The Future and Toy Story. Time travel and talking toys, yah my disbelief is totally suspended.
Wait..I just IMDB’d this and RODRIGO SANTORO IS IN IT.
My question to you Karen is, does he appear shirtless at any point in time? That may be worth $12 to me. Perhaps. MAYBE.
Nevermind. I confused his attending the premiere for his actually being in it.
I agree, Terminator 2 was an entertaining romp but this number 4. Diminishing returns, friends.
You should have taken that $12 and seen Star Trek. I have been never been a fan of any of the Trek franchise but god damn that was some good watching. I am available as a buddy for repeat viewings.
I actually think the new Star Trek series is built FOR non-fans. Not too many nerding out moments at all..ST is ingrained enough into the general public’s cultural psyche, although making a mainstream James Tiberius Kirk risks alienating fans.
But really who are we kidding? Fans will buy anything. ST fans endured Deep Space 9 AND Voyager, possibly the worst abominations of the entire franchise. The movie is worth seeing twice if only for the parachute scene.
I loved Star Trek and would be willing to see it again!
