Reverie Sound Revue! Yes, I am pretty excited. What, you don’t know who Reverie Sound Revue is? Lets go back a few years.

I would describe RSR’s sound as melodic-lounge-disco music. For all you groovers out there, lead singer and Calgonian, Lisa Lobsinger, will get you bouncing around. The band released an EP in 2003 and disbanded shortly after in 2004. Even back in 2004 and 2005 I wasn’t able to find their EP in any record shops here in Toronto, so I was left waiting to hear their songs on the radio.

As some of you may remember, CBC Radio2 used to have a radio show every Saturday night, hosted by Grant Lawrence, which was the early form of what CBC Radio3 represents now. If I wasn’t doing anything on a Saturday night, I would often stay at home, bake some brownies and tune into CBC Radio2. Crazy, I know. CBC would email the Saturday night playlist on Friday afternoon at about 5 PM, so I remember sticking around work on Fridays so that I would be able to get it and print it out before the weekend. Geek. Well, back in 2004 and 2005 a staple of the Saturday night radio show were tracks from Reverie Sound Revue. Songs such as Walking Around Waiting Downtown and It’s All The Same, were regulars which would induce much brownie dancing in whatever kitchen I happened to be baking in.

Front woman Lisa Lobsinger resurfaced in the musical community in 2005 when she filled the vacant female voice of Broken Social Scene. With Feist, Amy Millan and Emily Haines gaining popularity on their other projects, Lisa was able to slide in with the BSS kids. But now Lisa and the other members of RSR are able to concentrate on their own project with the upcoming release of their first Reverie Sound Revue full length on June 23rd. What is even better is that they are digitally re-releasing their 2003 EP later this month on May 26th. Yippy, brownies for everyone.
