Being the uncool person that I am, prior to attending SXSW this year I had never heard of Passion Pit, a 5-piece indie electro band from Cambridge, MA. I’ll be honest, upon hearing the band’s name I had a hard time getting myself interested. To me the name sounded like one of those dime a dozen pop punk trios I’d expect to come from Orange County or something. Call me a snob but if a band’s name is the first I hear of them, that’s gonna be the first thing I judge. I can’t help it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I’m also sure there are many people disagree with me on their name, and that’s fine.
I vaguely recall being introduced to one of the band’s members at a party at SXSW, but it was late and I had been drinking so I don’t remember who it was. He was very nice though. I kept hearing the band’s name throughout the days I was there, and persistently other sites I read mentioned them often. Even Kanye linked them. So I decided to finally give them a shot and I’m glad I did – check out the brilliant video for “The Reeling” below:
I’m gonna go see them here in Austin on June 3, and you can find the rest of their current tour dates here.
