This past year I was pretty disappointed in myself when it came to listening to new music and getting my ass out to shows. Between school, work and other dumb shit, I got behind early in the year and never really caught up. Here are some great sources which I rely on regularly to find out what’s new.

Panic Manual Podcast
Yah, I started with the obvious. If you haven’t heard our monthly podcast…HERE is our January edition.

CBC Radio 3
The weekly podcast, along with the top 30 countdown (R3-30) show they do are pretty solid sources for new Canadian music. All Canada all the time.

Bandepart
This is the French version of CBC Radio 3. Quebec has some solid artists which we never hear about here in English Canada. Subscribe to their podcast and you wont be disappointed, especially if you are into electronic, beat heavy music. I have no idea what they are talking about between songs, but they sometimes play Les Breastfeeders and Elephantine…which makes me happy.

Midnight Poutine
This podcast/blog is out of Montreal. If living in Canada for the past 31 years has taught me anything, it is that Montreal is cool. He covers much of the same stuff we listen to here at the Panic Manual, but he also covers the local Montreal scene. A good mix of the latest music across the pond, from NYC and new Canadian stuff. (Jeremy Morris)

Toronto Independent Music Podcast (BlogTO)
This is great for finding out who is coming to Toronto. I haven’t been listening to it for very long, but I have enjoyed what I have heard.

Magnet
This is the only music magazine I read. It comes out four times a year and the reviews are short and concise. They have taken some heat in the past for not putting women on the cover, but all in all, it is a great music magazine. Their band profiles have amazing photos and the only advertising in the magazine is from record ladles. However, there is always one full-page advertisement for some tobacco company, which is kind of weird.

Wavelength
Get out and go see some shows on Sunday night here in Toronto. If you are a band in a van driving across the country, chances are you are going to stop at Sneky Dees and play Wavelength. Good vibe, cheap beer. I’m going to make an effort to get out more often this year.

If you have a podcast that you think should be heard, let us know. I’ll update the post.
