Well it’s that special time again, an event that happens every couple of years that gets me all gee’d up, anticipating the next big album from Oasis only to be disappointed when I hear it. For me this applies to 2002’s Heathen Chemistry and 2005’s Don’t Believe The Truth. But based on what I’ve heard from the upcoming Dig Out Your Soul (out Oct 7th), I’ve got a good feeling. I’ve never been really partial to albums where Oasis tried to change things up (see above). Hard rocking, lyrically simple tracks and a don’t-give-a-fuck attitude is what makes Oasis an amazing band. They don’t need to experiment with different sounds or use huge orchestras. Look at AC/DC.
The Shock Of The Lightning feels like the result and realization that Noel and Co. should just stick to the status quo. Forget airplay or album sales, as long as every head in the sold-out crowd is feverishly nodding along to every track, that’s all that matters.
