Toronto - A kid screaming. Fingernails against a chalkboard. A Fart. A Pig Squealing. An Airplane Engine. William Hung. Rosanne Barr’s National Anthem. What do those things have in common? If I was to copy a sound from another source of music, I’d rather copy those sounds then the Kooks, which is exactly what Cajun Dance Party did with their debut album - The Colourful Life. Now I’m not saying its an awful album, but theres just no bit of originality there, which is quite disappointing considering single “Amylase” is a fantastic song. In case you are wondering what it sounds like, think, inoffensive poppy sounds layered with spiky guitar riffs.

Cajun Dance Party is a 5 piece indie band from England (where else), and this album was produced by Bernard Butler, so it’s a surprise I was not a big fan of it, since Suede’s my favorite band. Still those days were way too long ago.

2/5

“William Hung” - You shouldn’t be dissing your cousin like that.
