After listening to this album, I’ve realized why it’s free, because it’s absolute rubbish. I appreciate the fact the Charlatans are still releasing albums and it’s nice to see a band from the Madchester heyday still kicking, but it seems like they only produce albums attuned to the music genre du jour instead of ‘keeping it real’.

1/5

Rubbish? WOW…But the real question here is: Are the Charlatans a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Panic Manual Britpop band.

What a truly intriguing and in depth review of the new Charlatans album. I have now given it a spin and can reveal that it’s quite good. Lots of swirling Hammond running through nearly all the tracks with some strong New Orderesque bass lines. Tim Burgess’s lyrics do sometimes leave a lot to be desired but I think he’s improved this part of his game over the years.

    For me, a 3.5 / 5.

p.s. & the track entitled ‘Misbegotten’ is simply superb.
